Fjölsmiðjan is a non-profit organization with the aim of running a vocational training, production and training center for young people aged 16-24. Likewise, people aged 25 and over have access to Fjölsmiðjan if they have a special need in that field.
Fjölsmiðjan started its operations in 2001 and was the founding members of the Icelandic Red Cross, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Directorate of Labor and the municipalities in the capital area. Fjölsmiðjan’s model is based in Denmark, where „Produktionsskoler“ has been run for years.
Fjölsmiðjan strives to be in good contact with the labor market and social resources and to be a visible option when it comes to choosing paths in life. Fjölsmiðjan emphasizes that those students who have worked at Fjölsmiðjan leave there as stronger individuals, socially, academically and more qualified for the labor market.
Fjölsmiðjan meets students on their own terms and strives to fulfill their needs and wishes as they experience the job.
Our main goal is to strengthen social skills and strengthen individuals in personal growth, as well as to prepare them for increased schooling and participation in the general labor market.
